It's been almost a month since I've last updated my blog, so I guess I have a lot of catching up to do! For two weeks I was dealing with some serious allergy issues, so for the most part I just slept all weekend. In Dallas the seasons change much earlier and faster than back home in PA. I never had any issues with allergies until I moved down here. Thanks Dallas! Once I was back on my feet and fully recovered, we were finally able to enjoy the great city we live in.
On a Friday night after work, I met my boyfriend and some of his friends from work at The Flying Saucer a bar/restaurant for dinner and drinks. After work on a Friday, the place gets really busy and parking because more valuable than gold. The atmosphere here is really relaxed and they offer great after work drink specials. If you drink over 100 different types of beer, you even get to hang a plaque with your name written on it to commemorate your achievement. I always stick to my one favorite beer, so no plaque for me. We also ordered some bar snack food which was delicious. I highly recommend their queso, pita and hummus, and apparently they have good chili as well. What started as drinks after work, turned into an entire night out, going from bar to bar. I was actually excited about exploring different bars, since the bar scene here is still unfamiliar to me. Back at Penn State, I tried to go to all the bars at least once before finding a favorite (Lion's Den obvi). We ended up starting by drinking house beer at Flying Saucer in Addison, then headed to downtown Dallas and stopped at Primos for authentic margaritas, Kung Fu which actually has a bunch of arcade games inside, and finally 6th street which was more of a dance club. Overall, it was a great night of exploring a bunch of different bars. I have to say Kung Fu is my favorite so far. It's a little over crowded, but who can pass up playing connect four while drinking with friends?
On Saturday of this same weekend, we spent all day recovering from our night out the day before (I'm not as young as I use to be). That night we met the same people we hung out with the night before to go and support Tony Mack, a close friend of a friend and a professional boxer. The event was held in a rodeo stadium near the Texas State Fair. I had never been to a boxing match before, and didn't really know what to expect. For $15 you get to see six different boxing matches with Tony Mack being the main event and going last. We got to see some crazy knock outs, but the best knock out was in the second round when Tony knocked out his opponent and won middleweight champion of Texas. Steven Jackson, NFL running back, was even there to support Tony. Sitting so close, you really get into the fight. I wouldn't mind going to another boxing match while here in Texas.
With basketball season coming to an end, we wanted to make sure we made it back out to the American Airlines Center for one last Mavs game. Again, we got our tickets off of Stubhub.com and were able to find great seats for a great price. We even splurged on "Mavaritas" from the bar. Unfortunately they lost to the Suns, but I'm glad we got to see one last game this season. Can't wait for next year!
Last weekend was the first time I've left Dallas since moving down here in late January. My beautiful cousin Jen was getting married in DC, and of course I couldn't miss it! On Saturday morning, bright and early, I flew to DC all by myself for the first time ever (I'm such a big girl now!). My Dad and Step-Mom picked me up from the airport, and I was beyond excited to see them. Family is so important to me, and being so far away is really difficult for me sometimes. Unfortunately my sisters stayed back home in PA, so I didn't get to see them, but I did get to see my entire Dad's family who I don't get to see very often. The Smith family is quite a group, and I loved spending time with all of them! My cousin Jen is a wedding planner, and as expected, the wedding was absolutely prefect, just like the bride! Luckily the weather cooperated, and she was able to have the ceremony outside at a beautiful botanical garden. The night was filled with lots of dancing and drinking. I wish I remembered while drinking that I had a plane to catch early the next morning. The plane ride back to Dallas was hard 1. because I was hung over and 2. because I hated saying goodbye to my family. This trip was entirely too short, and I really wish I had more time to spend with my Dad's family. I'm not sure when I will see them next, but I guess FaceTime will have to work for now. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Bryan! I hope your lives are filled with nothing but love and happiness, and I am so glad I was able to be there to celebrate your wedding with you!
